Magnificent Mount Cook

Looking through Hooker Valley towards the giant that is, Mount Cook.

This is roughly a 3 hour hike. However, if you’re a keen photographer, then it will take much longer! This is one of our favourite walks in the area and has a special personal meaning to us. The track leads up the Hooker valley towards Aoraki/Mount Cook. There are photographic opportunities wherever you look.

Cross the Hooker River and walk across the beautifully constructed swing bridges and if it’s the right time of year, look out for the Mount Cook buttercup/kōpukupuku.

At this particular point of taking this photo, we noticed the vegetation started to change to more open tussock and a wider valley floor and The Hooker river just looked so spectacular rushing away down the valley from the Southern Alps/Kā Tiritiri o te Moana.

Enjoy the walk back, admiring the views of the Sealy Range. The closest place possible in comparing to the Garden of Eden, perhaps? We think so.
